Lausitzring. Manthey experienced a mixed bag of results at the second DTM race weekend of the season at the Lausitzring. While Ayhancan Güven (Turkey) and Thomas Preining (Austria) secured two top ten results in Saturday's race, Morris Schuring (Netherlands) was forced to retire his nine-eleven early after a collision that was not his fault. In the second sprint race, the young Dutchman celebrated his first points finish in the DTM, while Ayhancan Güven completed the double points finish with 14th place. Thomas Preining, who had started the race in third place on the podium after a strong qualifying session, was forced to retire after contact in the first lap through no fault of his own.

Güven, Preining, and Schuring started Saturday's race at the 3.442-kilometer Lausitzring in Brandenburg in their three Porsche 911 GT3 R cars from positions eight (#90), nine (#91), and sixteen (#92). Schuring, who was involved in a collision with several cars through no fault of his own, had to retire his Porsche immediately after the start of the race due to severe damage to the front of the car. Preining managed to work his way up from ninth to seventh in the opening minutes, while Güven initially dropped back to twelfth. While the Turkish driver was called in for a tire change with 33 minutes remaining in the race, Preining did not enter the pit lane until five minutes before the end of the pitstop window. Two quick tire changes by the pit crew and the strategic use of the overcut on car number 90 (Güven) and the undercut on car number 91 (Preining) allowed both cars to move up to seventh and ninth place in the field. The Porsche drivers ultimately finished the race in sixth (#91) and eighth (#90) place in the middle of the point-scoring positions, collecting a total of 18 championship points for the team.

In Sunday's qualifying, Preining managed to secure third place on the grid. Schuring lined up in fifteenth position, while Güven, whose qualifying was affected by traffic on the track, started the race from eighteenth. The race was over for the number 91 car in the second corner when Preining was hit by another car while battling for the lead, breaking the front right track rod on his car. Meanwhile, Güven managed to work his way up to fifteenth place, while Schuring lost a few positions. After starting a comeback, he was spun off the track by car number 25 after ten minutes of racing and dropped to the back of the field. However, after a quick tire change at the end of the first pit stop window, he found himself back in the points (13th place) at the halfway point of the race. Güven was also in the points at this point, lying ninth after his 6.5-second first pit stop. The minutes between the two pit stop windows were marked by close battles for the midfield positions, with the Porsche drivers involved in a group of up to six other cars. In eleventh (Schuring) and twelfth (Güven) place, both nine-eleven came into the pits for their second mandatory tire change, after which they were ranked eleventh (Schuring) and fourteenth (Güven) in a field of 19 cars. Both drivers continued to battle for position until they crossed the finish line, ultimately finishing the race in the points. While Güven took fourteenth place, DTM rookie Schuring celebrated his first points finish in the sprint series with eleventh place.

"It was a challenging weekend for us. I had hoped that we would be able to better exploit our potential here at the Lausitzring. On Saturday, we scored two solid points, but then Morris suffered a retirement through no fault of his own. On Sunday, Thomas was simply unlucky, it could have been a very strong result. At the same time, though, it was a good race for Morris. I'm really pleased that he was able to score points in his fourth DTM race. Now we'll analyze the weekend and see what we can work on, and we'll be back on the attack in Zandvoort.“, explained Nicolas Raeder, Managing Director at the Manthey Racing GmbH. ”In the end, we came to the Lausitzring with different ambitions. On Saturday, we were well up there at the front, had some good battles and consolidated our position in the championship. Apart from Morris' unfortunate retirement, it was a good start for us. The pit stops on Saturday went particularly well. On Sunday, Thomas' starting position on the second row was a success. Morris also closed the gap to the front in qualifying, which shows how quickly he is learning. Of course, Can's result did not satisfy us. Traffic on the track prevented us from carrying out our normal procedures and preparing the tires perfectly. Nevertheless, we went into the race feeling optimistic. Unfortunately, we had a problem with Can's second and third sets of tires, which lacked grip, and we still need to analyze this thoroughly. Morris, on the other hand, had great pace and was able to show his potential. Unfortunately, there were some issues with the second pit stops on both cars, which cost us. As the race progressed, there were many close battles, where we currently lack the potential to defend and overtake. But now we are looking ahead to Zandvoort!", adds Patrick Arkenau, Vice President Racing.

After races three and four, Manthey is in second place in the DTM team standings with 88 points. Ayhancan Güven is in seventh place in the drivers' standings with 44 points, closely followed by Thomas Preining in eighth place (41 points). Meanwhile, Morris Schuring moves up one place to 18th with five championship points. From June 6 to 8, the DTM will be in Zandvoort for the next two races – Morris Schuring's home races.

Quotes on the DTM race weekend at the Lausitzring:

Ayhancan Güven, Porsche 911 GT3 R #90: "Unfortunately, things didn't go as well at the Lausitzring as they did in Oschersleben. I had good race starts and good first stints on both days. On Sunday, I then had some problems with the pace, which we need to analyze. Nevertheless, I was still able to score points in both races – eight on Saturday and two on Sunday. I'm happy about that because, in the end, that's what counts in the long run in the season. We will now analyze everything together and prepare well for Zandvoort so that we can come back stronger there."

Thomas Preining, Porsche 911 GT3 R #91: "It wasn't an easy weekend at the Lausitzring. We lacked a bit of pace in qualifying on Saturday, but we still managed to get a lot out of it. The race was very positive. I got off to a good start, was able to move up the field and finish in P6, which is a good result. Some days you're not in contention for the win, and then sixth place and ten points are worth a lot. In Sunday's qualifying, things went very well with third place. After a great start to the race, I was almost able to take the lead, but unfortunately the Ferrari behind me took a hit and slid into me. That's part of the game, it's just very tight in the DTM. Unfortunately, that meant my car was damaged. The first retirement after 35 races in the points is obviously very painful. But at the end of the day, that's motorsport."

Morris Schuring, Porsche 911 GT3 R #92: "I am proud and happy to have scored my first DTM points. The race was really chaotic, and I didn't think I would score my first points in such an exciting race. At one point, I was in last place and there were a lot of close battles on the track. So I'm really happy to have been the best rookie on Sunday and to have scored my first points. Our pace was very good and I feel that we are making progress. That motivates me a lot for my home race in Zandvoort!"
