- A second and a third place for Thomas Preining in the Eifel
- Ricardo Feller finishes in the points in both sprint races
- Manthey welcomes over 600 guests to the DTM home races at the Nürburgring
Nürburg. Manthey and Thomas Preining continued their run of podium finishes, which began at Oschersleben, at the Nürburgring in front of their home crowd. The Austrian managed to secure second place on Saturday and third place in Sunday’s race in the Eifel. Ricardo Feller suffered damage to his Porsche in both sprint races following contact with other cars, but was still able to pick up valuable points with a ninth and an eleventh place. The Meuspath-based team celebrated these results with more than 600 invited guests, including many partners as well as numerous colleagues and their families. Manthey also managed to close the gap on the championship leaders. Now just four points behind, the team is within striking distance of second place in the team championship standings. Thomas Preining, just one point behind the championship leader, is also in second place in the drivers’ championship, whilst Ricardo Feller lies in twelfth place (77 points). Manthey has scored points in every one of the twelve races in the sprint season so far.
“Even though the Nürburgring remains the only circuit on the DTM calendar where we haven’t managed to win so far, we’ve made it onto the podium in both races and closed the gap to the top of the championship. Everything is up for grabs again ahead of the final two race weekends and we’re right in the thick of it – an absolutely brilliant result at our home races. Achieving this in front of so many Grello and Manthey fans, as well as numerous partners and colleagues, is a special feeling. Saturday went brilliantly for Thomas. Despite carrying ten kilograms of success ballast from Oschersleben, he managed to secure a strong second place. Unfortunately, Ricardo was spun round through no fault of his own and lost positions as a result. Without that contact, a better result than ninth place would have been possible, and the result doesn’t quite reflect his strong performance. On Sunday, Thomas was able to capitalise on retirements and mistakes by the competition, and we delivered a flawless race both strategically and in the pit lane. In the end, it was enough for third place, with which we are very satisfied. For Ricardo, it was a race full of intense battles, and unfortunately the number 90 car was damaged in one of them. Up until then, it had been a good race, but afterwards he could only just drag the car over the finish line and pick up at least a few points. However, we clearly saw his potential this weekend. We want to build on that,” explains Patrick Arkenau, Director Racing at the Manthey Racing GmbH.
“I’m proud of the team because we’ve fought our way back up the championship standings. Above all, I’m delighted that we achieved this at the Nürburgring and that nearly 300 employees from our four business divisions were there to witness it with their families. Together with other partners and friends, we had over 600 guests in attendance, which created a special atmosphere at our home race. There were also a great many Grello fans in the stands, which never fails to impress me. I really appreciate this tremendous support and am very proud of it. We’re heading to the Sachsenring in good spirits and with good chances. We have great memories of the circuit following two victories there last year. We want to build on our four podium finishes and fight for the championship,” adds Nicolas Raeder, Managing Director of the Manthey Racing GmbH.
Before the team travels to the Sachsenring in a month’s time for the penultimate sprint race weekend of the year (11–13 September 2026), the next FIA World Endurance Championship race on the calendar is Lone Star Le Mans (4–6 September 2026) at the famous Circuit of the Americas.
Quotes on the DTM race weekend at the Nürburgring:
Ricardo Feller, Porsche 911 GT3 R #90: “Another difficult weekend for me. I’m not unhappy with the work we’ve done. The team put in a top performance. Unfortunately, we had some bad luck on Saturday with a spin. On Sunday, I found myself surrounded by lots of cars on fresh sets of tyres, which ultimately turned into a battle for survival in the field for me. At least we managed to salvage some points at the finish, though. I hope that at the Sachsenring we can finally show what we’ve been working towards and what we’re capable of. I’m delighted for Thomas that he’s managed to close the gap to the championship leaders. A big thank you goes to the numerous fans and the many Manthey employees, who cheered us on so brilliantly.”
Thomas Preining, Porsche 911 GT3 R #91: “I’m very happy and satisfied with the weekend at the Nürburgring. Saturday went extremely well, and on Sunday we were able to capitalise on our rivals’ retirements. Thanks to the team for the outstanding car and the brilliant strategies and pit stops. I’m also very pleased that we were able to put on such a good show for the many fans, partners and Manthey employees. The races in the Eifel have become like home races for me now, and it’s great to receive such incredible support here. We’re back where we want to be in the championship, and I’m proud that we never stopped fighting. I’m now heading to the Sachsenring feeling very confident; it’s a circuit that suits us and the car very well.”
