Nürburg. A total of 20 cars lined up for the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers, which were held under the technical regulations of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN). The two four-hour races are considered preparatory runs for the 24-hour race and were held outside the championship of the Porsche one-make series. As in the endurance classic in almost four weeks' time, the participants contested the 25.378-kilometre combination of the Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit and the Nordschleife. With dominant performances in Saturday's race, PETN championship leaders Mühlner Motorsport (#921) with Arne Hoffmeister, David Jahn and Tim Scheerbarth won the Cup 2 class and SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#959) with Heiko Eichenberg and Harley Haughton won the Cup 3 class. Eichenberg and Haughton repeated their success in Sunday's race, while KKrämer Racing (#929) with Karsten Krämer, Fidel Leib and Sascha Steinhardt were victorious in the Cup 2 class.
Qualifying for race one took place on Saturday morning in dry track conditions. With a time of 8:28.159 minutes, Tim Scheerbarth put the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) from Mühlner Motorsport (#921) on first place on the grid in the Cup 2 class, while in the Cup 3 class, Harley Haughton secured pole position for the SRS Team Sorg Rennsport with start number 959 with a time of 8:53.114 minutes. Wet conditions made it difficult to set fast times in qualifying for race two, but the pole setters from the previous day were undeterred. Once again, the two drivers were the fastest in their classes, with lap times of 10:09.659 minutes from Tim Scheerbarth (#921) and 10:26.165 minutes from Harley Haughton (#959).
Start-to-finish victories in both classes under challenging conditions in race one
The PETN teams faced challenging conditions in race one of the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers which went in to darkness until 21:30. In cool temperatures and pouring rain, a total of 20 cars from the Porsche one-make series in Classes Cup 2 and Cup 3 battled their way through the Green Hell. Arne Hoffmeister, David Jahn and Tim Scheerbarth from Mühlner Motorsport (#921) proved themselves against the competition with a commanding start-to-finish victory, winning the four-hour race with a one-lap lead. This also meant seventh place overall for the championship leaders in the PETN Cup 2 class. KKrämer Racing (#929) finished second with Fidel Leib and Sascha Steinhardt, who also won the AM classification. Third place on the podium went to the ClickversicherungTeam (#919) with Robin Chrzanowski, Kersten Jodexnis and Richard-Sven Jodexnis.
The pole setters and championship leaders in the PETN also dominated the Cup 3 class. Heiko Eichenberg and Harley Haughton braved the conditions and won the class with a lead of 3:42.668 minutes ahead of Oskar Sandberg and Nico Silva from Adrenalin Motorsport Team Mainhattan Wheels (#940). Both Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS (982) finished the race ahead of the runner-up in the Cup 2 class, finishing 11th and 13th overall and thus coming close to a top 10 finish in the overall standings. The Cup 3 podium was completed by Thomas Ardelt, Henning Hausmeier and PETN talent pool driver Tim Lukas Müller from EiFelkind Racing (#977). The AM classification was won by Alexander Müller, Maximilian Volz and Bernhard Wagner in the 718 Cayman GT4 CS (982) from SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#979).
KKrämer Racing and Sorg Rennsport win Sunday's race
Drying conditions made tyre choice crucial at the start of the second race. The pole-sitters from Mühlner Motorsport (#921), Arne Hoffmeister, David Jahn and Tim Scheerbarth, headed for the pits at the end of the formation lap to switch to slicks. This strategic move enabled them to quickly make up for their lost first starting position and move up to the front of the class. In thrilling duels with the #901 car from SRS Team Sorg Rennsport, driven by Oleksii Kikireshko, Fabio Grosse and Patrik Grütter, the two Cup cars exchanged the class lead several times in the first hours of the race. For a long time, another race victory seemed certain, but due to contact with a vehicle from another class through no fault of their own, car number 921 had to pit shortly before the end for repairs to the radiator. KKrämer Racing (#929) with Karsten Krämer, Fidel Leib and Sascha Steinhardt ultimately secured the class victory, once again winning the AM classification. After technical problems, Kikireshko, Grosse and Grütter (#901) finished the race in second place ahead of Robin Chrzanowski, Kersten Jodexnis and Richard-Sven Jodexnis from the ClickversicherungTeam (#919).
With another flawless performance, Heiko Eichenberg and Harley Haughton from SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#959) won the Cup 3 class and finished the race in 14th place overall, just two places behind the winner of the Cup 2 class. Adrenalin Motorsport Team Mainhattan Wheels (#940), who also led the race for a while with Oskar Sandberg and Nico Silva, finished in second place. Third place on the podium went to the sister car with starting number 941, driven by Nick Deißler, Leo Messenger and Aaron Wenisch. As on the previous day, SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#979) secured victory in the AM classification with Alexander Müller, Maximilian Volz and Bernhard Wagner.
After a break of just under four weeks, next on the agenda are the ADAC Ravenol 24h Nürburgring. The endurance classic on the Nordschleife will take place from 19 to 22 June and is again not a championship race for the PETN. Instead, a special classification will be awarded for the participants in the classes Cup 2 and Cup 3.
